Devotional:

One reason I pray and fast in January is because my great prayer is for my 2026 to be better than my 2025. I pray this every year during my fast. If I had a bad year, I want this year to be better and if I had a great year, I want this year to be better. God encourages with this in 2 Cor. about a month ago. 2 Corinthians 4:7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. (NLT) God sent his greatest treasure, Jesus, into the world and that treasure has been placed in clay jars, you and me. What an amazing gift from God…to place his greatest treasure in a fragile jar of clay. Kind of a bad idea if you’re trying to protect your greatest treasure but God doesn’t operate like you and me, God sent his great treasure to live in clay jars. What a gift. We are clay jars, and the world needs leaders who don’t pretend to be flawless. The world needs Christians who can use their gifts and talents, though flawed, to make a great impact. We need men and women of God who know they are clay jars, flawed on the outside but have a great treasure on the inside. Pray that you can steward your gifts well so that the Spirit can move with authority, compassion, and anointing. Brokenness combined with humility creates leaders who are strong, love well, serve faithfully. God can trust these types of leaders to take care of His people. Pray with me today to become one of these leaders.

Questions:

What gifts has God placed inside you?

What areas of brokenness has God used to shape humility and compassion in you?

Are you leaning too heavily on your talents?

Are you depending on the Holy Spirit in your leadership?

Prayer:

Lord, I pray that I will recognize the treasure on the inside of me. I also pray that I will remember the fact that I am a clay jar, fragile and flawed. You have given me gifts and talents, thank you, help me steward them well to make an impact on the Kingdom of God. I want to be a great leader who is strong but humble, loves well, serves faithfully, someone God can trust with His people.
