Day 15 of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Devotional: 

Have you ever looked for buried treasure? As a boy growing up finding buried treasure was always a fantasy of mine! I remember gettin as a gift one year a medal detector! I finally had my means to find treasure. Unfortunately it turns out the suburbs of Fenton Mi is not the best place to look for buried treasure. Unless treasure is about 35 cents which is what I found. I follow some real treasure hunters on social media and one thing I quickly noticed with them is that they put a lot of effort into their search but they also are incredibly intentional with how they listen. They even said you can have the right equipment and be in the right field, in the right spot. But if you are not listening well. You can miss the treasure. ‘A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord , for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” ‘ 1 Samuel 3:8-10 When Jesus was Teaching a phrase he used often was “whoever has ears, let them hear” Learning to hear from God is so important I want to encourage you to spend time listing this fast. Get alone to pray and then just set in the quiet Get in the word of God more and ask him to speak while you are reading. Listen to messages

1. How often do you practice listening? We practice speaking and all kinds of other skills but how often do we practice listening?

2. What do you think Jesus meant when he said “if anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”

3. Do you think you can be in the right place at the right time and miss a word from God because you weren’t listening?

4. What is one listening practice you can put into practice today?

Prayer:

Lord, thank you that you still speak to your people. Help me to learn to listen when you are speaking and to be sensitive to your Holy Spirit leading me. God as I seek your face these 21 day give me an awareness when you are speaking. Help me to not crowd my life and with so much noise that I miss the most important voice. Speak Lord because I am listening.
