Devotional:

Welcome to day 14! This is the beginning of the final week, so let’s end strong together. This is the verse we’ve been focusing on over the last 14 days. Matthew 13:44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. (NLT) One great man of God told it this way. Imagine a poor man walking across a rocky field that nobody wanted and he was only passing through to go somewhere else. While walking across this rocky field that no one cared about, he stubs his foot on what he thought was another rock, only to look down and see a chest. He gets curious and excited and digs the chest out of the ground. When he opens the chest, he finds treasure more valuable than his wildest dreams. He looks around to see that no one has noticed him or the chest full of treasure. He then buries the chest back into the ground, so no one knows. He finds out who owns the field and buys the field off that man. He spends his life savings on a rocky field knowing the treasure that is hidden in it. He is more than happy to spend everything to make a fortune. Great champions in the Kingdom of God have done this for the last 2,000 years. They will spend everything and sacrifice everything because they know the value of people that no other person even cares about. Missionaries and pastors do this all the time. The only treasure we can take to heaven is people. Also, the only value this earth holds is souls. God knows this and great champions in the Kingdom of God know this too. The kingdom of God is so supremely precious that a person should be happy to make any sacrifice necessary to obtain and maintain a place in the kingdom. Day 14 of the fast is a great day to re-evaluate some of our priorities. We can get stuck on the hamster wheel of life and lose sight of what matters most. Always remember, people are God’s special possessions, and He is looking for others to see people like this. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (NIV)

Questions:

Do I feel God calling me?

Where do I need to go and find the lost treasure God desires to find?

Am I taking care of God’s special possessions like He wants me to?

Am I happy to make the necessary sacrifices God is asking me to make?

Prayer:

Lord, help me see the treasure all around me. I want to be the kind of Christian that values people over everything else. Help me to get my priorities straight and align with yours. I love you Lord and I know you love me, thank you for loving me and loving others…I want to love others like you love me. Lord, on day 14 of the fast, I am praying that I see the treasure hidden in the field. I am praying that I see what you see, and I see with your eyes. Amen.
