Day 13 | 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Today’s Verses: 

And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 17 For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ 18 And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; 2 Kings 3:16-18a

Devotional: 

Sometimes when we set ourselves apart to seek the Lord, we find that the Lord might call us to do things that we haven’t done before! He may call us to a new prayer, a new commitment of reading His Word, or a way to grow deeper in our faith. We may see Him invite us to sit at His feet in worship, and to do something that we may not usually do! The best way to describe these different disciplines, is digging ditches. In 2 Kings 3 the prophet Elisha is invited to meet 3 Kings. They find themselves in a desperate situation, in a valley. You may be in a valley today, waiting to see God move in your life, waiting for a miracle, or waiting for a next step. 2 Kings 3:16-18a 16 And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 17 For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ 18 And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord;” Do you need a miracle? Do you need God to show up in a big way? God invites us to get our hands dirty, and dig ditches. To put in the spiritual work. Not so that we earn a response from the Lord, but that we show our obedience, commitment, and desire for Him to come through. Digging ditches is not easy. We have to stretch ourselves to dig ditches. It is oftentimes a challenge. What ditches are you digging throughout this fast? Maybe God is calling you to dig a new ditch, or to dig up an old ditch. Be encouraged that as you dig these ditches, God sees your commitment, effort, and desire for Him.

Prayer:

I am going to get down on my hands and knees and I am going to dig a ditch of obedience. Lord, I hear you calling me to do something unique. I know that you are calling me to dig a ditch and that different from what I usually do…I will obey. As I dig these new ditches, I am excited to see what you are going to fill these ditches with. Amen.
