Ministry has many moments. I believe the ministry is full of God moments. There are certain events in ministry that are defining. They mark you. You remember them. They change your life, your ministry, and your perspective. Here are some of my defining moments in ministry.

1. God called me into the ministry. I was 18 years old and reading Romans 1:15-16. Paul was indebted to preach the Gospel. God said, "And you are indebted to preach the Gospel." I immediately said "thank you God."

2. My first message to the youth group. The youth pastor had resigned and a deacon was filling in on Wednesday night and teaching the Word. He asked me to preach for him. He felt inadequate for the task. I was 20 years old, and I leaped at the opportunity. God anointed me that night and touched many hearts. The deacon went to the pastor of the church and recommended me to be the next youth pastor. The pastor gave me the privilege of pastoring the teens of the church. I was so pumped!

3. My call to Michigan. I was 27 years old and the church extended a call to me to be their pastor. I was excited, afraid, intimidated, anxious, and sober. I've been here 24 years. The church has grown from 50 to 1400. Thank you Lord!

4. My first wedding and funeral. I really felt like a pastor when I performed my first wedding and funeral.

5. My first building program. It was very hard. I led the church to do it debt free. I took my eyes off the Lord and placed them upon people. I learned great lessons that enabled me to do three more building programs. Each building program got larger and more expensive. They also got easier because I was spiritually stronger.

6. My first training of pastors and leaders. I was asked to join Equip ministry to South Africa. I trained pastors and leaders. I felt so privileged to be allowed to speak to them. I was humbled and excited. I think I grew more than them. They were very kind to me. They received my ministry. It still surprises me when people receive the Word of the Lord through me.
